Craft Beer, Is it worth it?

Welcome to the first blog for Three Paws Brewing, a place where I (Steve) can get some things off my mind and a place where I can share my path to opening a small craft brewery in the Niagara Region.

So, Craft beer, it’s what brings people together. I’ve seen it first hand, From my first brew in my garage back in 2016. A black IPA recipe that I stumbled across on a homebrew site that used to frequent. I can’t remember the name of it now, I think it was along the lines of brewtoad, but it was full of recipes that other home brewers shared, and it was a great resource for people of the like trying to get into this hobby.

That Black IPA turned out amazing. Mind you, I did spend over a year researching the equipment, techniques and recipes. I was ready. I even sanitized pre boil in the mash because I didn’t want an infection. I was hooked, my buddies liked it. I liked it, heck even my wife said it wasn’t all that bad. That was a win in my books.

Fastforward 10 years. Here I am, trying to open Three Paws Brewing, and everywhere I look, I see this industry is a failing industry, The beer drinking trend is fading out. They may be right, and they may be wrong, but one thing I know is that if you have a great product, people will travel for it. If you build it, they will come as said by the great James Earl Jones. Sure the boom might be over, but here in Canada, and especially in Niagara, there’s still room for more breweries.

So, now that the business is registered, and the planning and searching for financing has begun, it’s time to get to work. Stay tuned for more blogs, rants and raves. Cheers Folks!
